New section of Novorossiysk Road opens to traffic

New route between Forder Valley Road and Novorossiysk Road

A new section of road that will eventually form part of the Forder Valley Link Road junction will open to traffic next week.

From Monday 15 March drivers travelling between Leigham Roundabout and Estover will be directed onto a newly built section of Novorossiysk Road, with a temporary ramp at the Forder Valley Road end.

There will still be one lane available in each direction and an alternative diversion route will be provided for pedestrians and cyclists.

The ‘switchover’ onto the new section will take place around lunchtime on Monday. Traffic will be held in both directions for about five minutes while barriers are relocated, using the temporary signals on Forder Valley Road and Novorossiysk Road (which will remain in place following the change).

Drivers are reminded that the western section of Forder Valley Road (between Novorossiysk Road and Fort Austin Avenue) remains closed and there is a reduced speed limit of 30mph along the whole length of Forder Valley Road and through the works area on Novorossiysk Road, for everyone’s safety.

Residents, local businesses and the emergency services are being kept informed of all changes to traffic management arrangements.

Once the new traffic layout is in place and service diversion work has been completed, the current section of Novorossiysk Road will be removed and the excavation for the drainage and wildlife ponds will be extended into that area.

The Forder Valley Link Road will create a much-needed alternative link between the A38 and the north of the city. This will help reduce journey times to and from key destinations such as Derriford Hospital, the University of St Mark and St John and Plymouth Science Park, as well as improve bus service reliability.

It forms part of a wider package of measures that are key to unlocking growth in the north of Plymouth, where over 4,000 new homes are planned over the next 15 years. Schemes already completed include the Derriford Transport Scheme, Derriford Hospital Interchange and Marjon Link Road.
