Tablets to Trevi House

Women who visit the Sunflower Women’s Centre at Trevi House will now be more connected, thanks to a gift of five tablet devices which have been donated as part of the national DevicesDotNow initiative.

DevicesDotNow was set up as a response to Covid-19 to provide devices, connectivity and support to those who were not online. Plymouth City Council applied for and obtained 20 devices that have been given to organisations including On Course South West and the ODILS Learning Foundation.

This week we handed over five devices to Hayley Dann, Fundraising and Marketing Lead at the Sunflower Women’s Centre, a wellbeing hub based at Trevi House.

Hayley said: “At Sunflower, from the digital poverty survey we carried out, we know that 1 in 4 women are unable to access online support and we have been working hard to eliminate the barriers to access.  We have recently set up a device lending library and so this wonderful donation of five tablets will help to make a difference to many women and children in need.”

Councillor John Taylor, Cabinet member for Education, Skills and Transformation said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted more than ever the struggles faced by those who are not online, either by not having access to devices or connectivity, or not having the skills and confidence to make the most of the benefits being online brings. We’re delighted to be able to help out by providing devices to organisations who will be able to get them to those most in need.”

This week is Get Online Week, an annual celebration of digital inclusion, giving everyone the chance to find the help they need to improve their digital skills.

Our new Digital Inclusion Network will see groups and organisations from across the city work together to engage and support those who are currently digitally excluded.  Find out more and how to get involved on our website.
