Temporary signals will be in intermittent use on Forder Valley Road, near the BP service station, from Monday 3 August.
This is to allow underground investigations to take place, followed by works to support and strengthen the embankment.
The signals will only be used when needed and only during off-peak times (Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 3.30pm).
The works are scheduled to finish by early December.
