Postal voters must reapply for their postal vote every three years.
If you applied for a postal vote on or before 30 January 2024, you must reapply for your postal vote by Saturday, 31 January 2026. If you do not reapply, your postal vote will be cancelled.
If you need to reapply we will contact you by email or letter.
The sender of the email will be electoral.services.plymouth.city.council@notifications.service.gov.uk.
Apply or reapply for a postal vote
You can apply for a postal vote online:
To apply you will need your:
- National Insurance number
- date of birth
- handwritten signature in black ink on plain white paper (you need to take a picture and upload it if applying online)

If you are not able to consistently sign
If you cannot sign or provide a consistent signature, you can request an exemption from the requirement to sign when applying for a postal vote.
If you don't know your National Insurance number
If you are unsure what your National Insurance number is you can find your National Insurance number online.
If you cannot provide your National Insurance number, you'll need to provide one or more documents of specific types so that we can confirm your identity. Contact us so we can tell you the types that can be accepted.
If you reapply late
If you do not re-apply by Saturday 31 January 2026 your postal vote will be cancelled and you will be registered to vote in person at the polling station until you make a new application.
If you wait until next year to re-apply (after your current postal vote expires) you may receive your postal ballot pack later than people who re-apply before the deadline
