Saltash Passage slipway

The slipway is free for public use for the launching of most types of boats including those towed on trailers. As the slope is relatively gentle cars might need to reverse into the water to ensure there is enough draught to float vessels from a trailer which might make launching fixed keel vessels challenging.

Slipway information

  • Located at St Budeaux (map grid reference SX 4366 5865)
  • 15 metres wide slipway
  • Provides access to the water at all states of the tide
  • There should be no times when access to the water is restricted

The slip has a gentle slope which means cars may need to reverse into the water to gain enough draught for vessels to float from a trailer and which would make launching fixed fin keel boats challenging.

At times, especially around spring ebb tide, there can be a considerable current running and if there has been a lot of rain in the week then this tide can run at up to 6 knots.

There are also restrictions around warships, submarines and Ministry of Defence jetties along the Tamar and the area is patrolled regularly by Ministry of Defence police.

How to get there

Leave the A38 at the Weston Mill Junction (signposted for Devonport) and continue along this road. At the traffic lights continue straight ahead.

At the second set of traffic lights turn right towards St Budeaux and continue along this road (Wolseley Road) until you pass the Lidl store. At the next junction, just past the pedestrian crossing and signposted ‘Station’, bear left and continue along this road over the railway bridge following the road as it bears right to run parallel to the railway line.

Continue on this road until you near the Tamar Bridge and the slipway will be on your right hand side just before the road bears right by the Royal Albert Bridge.

Parking

Parking facilities are restricted although there is limited space in the dinghy park for the parking of launching trollies and small road trailers.

Toilets

Toilets are limited to those provided by the pub opposite the slip.

Local facilities

Local facilities are restricted although there are pubs and a small café near to the slip.
