Tackling racism – report it, get support and talk about it

Whilst Plymouth is a safe city, as seen in recent weeks we know that racism does occur.

Council officers from our Community Safety Team are working in close partnership with the Police, and other partners to tackle crime, disorder, and anti-social behaviour, and to promote cohesion and inclusivity within our city.

Hate crime and racism will not be tolerated in Plymouth and robust action will be taken against any of those identified as responsible.

Reporting racism and hate crime

We want everyone to know what to do if they witness any hate crime or racism, and for those who are unfortunately victims, we want to encourage them to report it, and know that there is support available.

Find out more about hate crime and the support available.

Should you wish to report any incidents of crime or anti-social behaviour, please report these directly to Devon and Cornwall Police. Always call 999 in an emergency or when a crime is taking place. Should you wish to report non-urgent crime or anti-social behaviour, or submit information linked with community tensions, please call 101 or report via the Devon and Cornwall Police website.

If you would prefer to submit information to the police anonymously, you can do so by calling Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 or via the Crime Stoppers website.

If you, or anyone you know, has been a victim of anti-social behaviour or crime and need some additional support, please contact Victim Support. Victim Support is an independent charity offering free and confidential advice and support to victims of crime and anti-social behaviour. They can be contacted by calling their 24/7 support line number on 0808 16 89 111, their local helpline number between 9am to 6pm on 0300 303 0554, or via Live Chat on the Victim Support website.

Mental health support

We are also aware that many people might feel anxious and sad at the moment.

Help is available through:

Livewell’s first response service

If you are currently struggling with your mental health and feel like you are in a crisis.

Call our First Response service via NHS 111 (select the mental health option) for advice, support and signposting from one of our mental health professionals.

The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to anyone in Plymouth experiencing a mental health crisis.

Plymouth Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression

If you find you are struggling to cope, feeling low, anxious or overwhelmed by your thoughts or feelings (but not in a current crisis, in which case call 111 mental health option).

We encourage you to make a self-referral to our service if you are:
