More environmental offenders have been ordered to pay hundreds of pounds after their cases went before Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday.

Firstly, the court heard how 15 offenders has been witnessed dropping or leaving litter on the streets of Plymouth by a Council environmental enforcement officer.

They were all handed Fixed Penalty Notices for £100 at the time of the offence. But following several reminders, the FPNs went unpaid and they were summonsed to court.

Nine environmental offenders have been forced to pay nearly £400 having been found guilty of littering at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court heard how each of them had been spotted dropping litter on the streets of Plymouth by a Council environmental enforcement officer.

Yet more litter louts have been before the courts this week, with some ordered to pay more than £450.

In all, nine cases were heard by Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday.

Three more litter offenders had their cases put before Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court first heard the case of a woman from Keyham who in October last year left a collection of black bags in the service lane behind her property.

The bags containing mixed domestic waste was noticed by an enforcement officer over a week away from the next brown collection day.

Yet more littering offenders have been before Plymouth Magistrates Court this week.

On Monday, nine defendants were found guilty in their absence and ordered to pay £454.

The court heard how all of the offenders were given fixed penalty notices by the Council’s environmental enforcement officers, who witnessed them dropping litter on the city’s streets.

A man who dumped a pile of rubbish in a St Budeaux back lane has been ordered to pay over £1,000.

Tristan Harper, 53, of Higher Efford Road, appeared before Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday to answer for his crimes.

The court heard how in November 2019 Harper had been borrowing a garage from a friend in Evelyn Street.

Eighteen litterers must each pay £452 after hearings at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Of the 18, seven of the defendants were facing charges from offences in January 2020, while the 11 others faced charges for offences in September 2019.
