Plymouth City Council is committed to developing and providing opportunities for our young people. This year will see the launch of our new School Work Experience Scheme.
As a council we would like to offer a number of work experience placements to students in years 10 and 12 who meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Live in Plymouth
- Attend a Plymouth School
- Looked after young person/Care leaver
There will be an opening and closing event each week, which will induct the cohort of students to their week at the Council, as well as celebrating their achievement of successfully completing the scheme.
Dates of placements
The dates for the School Work Experience Scheme in 2023 are:
- Monday 3 July 2023 to Friday 7 July 2023
- Monday 10 July 2023 to Friday 14 July 2023

If you meet the eligibility criteria above, and are interested in joining us, then please complete the application form by 5pm Friday 31 March 2023.
Applications will be open from Wednesday 8 February 2023.
On your application, please indicate your preferred placement from the list of placements we have for this year’s cohorts.

What you will achieve
At the end of the experience the students will have gained the following:
- valued knowledge from staff working inside the Council
- an insight into the working life
- exploration of the different routes that are available to them upon leaving school, such as apprenticeships or further education
