We are committed to developing and providing opportunities for our young people.
As a Council we would like to offer a number of work experience placements to young people aged roughly between 15 and 17 (school year 10 to 12) who meet at least one of the following criteria:
- live in Plymouth
- attend a Plymouth School
- are Care Experienced or have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
There will be an opening and closing event each week, which will induct the cohort of students to their week at the Council. The event will also celebrate their achievement of successfully completing the scheme, meeting some of the Council’s senior leadership in the process.
Individuals who have joined us in previous years have fed back their enjoyment of the placement opportunities with the recognition of “a mix of business and history in all shapes and sizes” and how “it was interesting seeing the different opportunities for the young people of Plymouth”.
Dates of placements
2025 work experience weeks will be:
- Monday 30 June to Friday 4 July 2025
- Monday 7 July to Friday 11 July 2025

If you meet the criteria and are interested in joining us, then complete our online application form by 5pm on Tuesday 31 December 2024. You will not be able to complete an application after this date.
You can let us know your preferred placement when completing your application. Use your preferred placement to help you complete your application.
Whilst we will aim to allocate all placement requests, we cannot guarantee that an application will result in a placement.

What you will achieve
At the end of the experience individuals will have gained the following:
- valued knowledge from staff working inside the Council
- an insight into the working life
- exploration of the different routes that are available to them upon leaving school, such as apprenticeships or further education
