Ageing Well - Help and Advice

As we age there are lots of things we might need a bit of help with - from paying our bills, to keeping our homes warm to understanding what benefits we are entitled to. The information here should help point you in the right direction.  

Financial help and advice 

A range of financial advice for people of all ages is available on our Cost of Living Hub, including information about benefits, budgeting and debt and scam advice.  

Support for carers 

If you are a carer providing support to an older person there is help and support available to you. Find out more about the financial and legal support available.

Energy costs 

Whether you're struggling with your bills, confused by your energy supplier or wondering about how to improve your home's energy efficiency - help and advice is at your fingertips from Plymouth Energy Community.  

Home Upgrade Grants  

A partnership between Plymouth Energy Community and Future Fit providing funds to upgrade homes to improve energy performance if you meet certain eligibility requirements. 

Winter Fuel Payment 

This will no longer go to all pensioners but instead will be restricted to those on certain benefits. We encourage you to check what you are entitled to by using a benefits calculator or asking for help from Citizens Advice.

General information and advice  

Midlife MOT

The Government's Midlife MOT service is a one-stop online support hub aimed at people aged 45 to 65. It provides a range of services, tools and resources to help you start planning your work, money and health making sure you are prepared for later life. 

Wellbeing Hubs 

There are nine Wellbeing Hubs where friendly staff and volunteers provide information and signposting for issues ranging from housing, finance and employment advice to health, social care and wellbeing services. They also host local community group activities that reduce loneliness and promote independence.     

Age UK Plymouth 

Age UK provide advice, information, activities and events for older people and their carers. Includes welfare benefits and housing advice, home energy check and a day care centre. Find out more on the Age UK website.

Loneliness and social isolation 

Age Positive Plymouth 

A project for over 65s focused on reducing social isolation and lonliness through helping older adults to stay active and social. Includes social groups, activities and events at locations across the city. Find out more about Age Positive.     

Eldertree befriending and activities 

Eldertree offer a range of health and social engagement activities for older people at venues across the city - including bowls, walking football and supper clubs. The befriending provides valuable support and friendship to older people in their homes. Find out more about Eldertree.
