St Luke's Christmas tree project

A total of £470 was raised for St Luke's Hospice by a number of our young people by recycling old pallets, then making and selling shabby chic Christmas trees.

The trees were really good and we were inundated with orders. All the trees were ten pounds but we were able to raise £45 by selling a white tree through a secret auction. The young people worked hard making over 40 trees.

Boston Tea Party - Barbican

Our young people have kindly been given a space to showcase all their artwork projects that raises money for St Lukes charity.

Boston Tea Party, which is  based in Jamaica House on the Barbican, work with local artists to regularly display their artwork.

They were approached by the Youth Offending Team to see if they would display and then sell their work with the proceeds going to charity.

Simon the manager was more than happy to support this idea as the cafe has been designed in its own unique character with an eclectic mix of up-cycled, salvaged and restored furniture and fittings installed. The recycle wooden pictures fit really well into the feel of the place, as do the bunting which are made from scrap bits of material.

We want to remain a café that will be discovered, recommended and returned to, as this is a place where you’re accepted for who you are.  We would love the young people from the Youth Offending Team to see their work being displayed in the café and also feel they are valued in our society and what a better way than to value their art projects by selling them for charity.

St Luke's Shabby Chic Shop - Barbican

We approached St Luke's on the Barbican asking them if they would like us to make them some beach style artwork.

St Luke's gratefully accepted our offer and the pictures turned out to be a great success selling from £15 to £20 each. At this moment we have raised over £250 for the charity.

See below some examples of the artwork created.

Bunting

Our Young people meet up in one of our youth centres once a week for two hours to make the bunting.

Part of the ethos of reparation is that the task is worthwhile and has a skill base so by making the bunting for a worthwhile cause the Young people are also learning a valuable life skill.

One of our Young people said “ I really enjoy this sewing as it calms me down and helps me to forget the stresses in my life”
