Alien Pebbles

One of our young person was tasked with painting some pebbles to look like Aliens. A staff member then contacted a local corner shop opposite a park in Keyham and asked if they would support the hunt over the weekend by providing a small reward. The youth offending team provided some funds for the 20 rewards and the staff member who lives locally hid the Aliens over an evening.

Due to the feedback the shop and the community Facebook page received the game has continued for two weeks thanks to the support of a local Business and shop owner.

Chair of Keyham Neighbourhood Watch said "I would like to say a big thank you for the hard work that has gone into the alien hunt in the parks around Keyham.

Not only are the pebbles extremely well designed and decorated, they have been extremely popular with the kids looking for them.

As a Neighbourhood Watch we have loads of positive feed back from parents about this, peoples kids have enjoyed walking around the park looking for these. With one parents saying “their kids have never wanted to go for walks as much in their life”.

In this troubled time the alien hunt has been a great morale boost to the kids in this area and has brought a lot of happiness to the parents seeing their kids so happy and wanting to exercise.

So I would like to say a heart felt thank you to all the hard work, as it has been very rewarding seeing so many people happy form this.

Plus the reward of a chocolate bar in exchange for the pebble has had all the kids talking about how much fun this has all been.

It has been a fun activity, bringing smiles to kids during a difficult period, I cant thank yourself and team enough for a great community project."

Bikes for Children in Need

These are some of the bikes that were dropped off to a young person after a worker put an appeal out on social media for unwanted bikes for the young person to repair and give to children in need.

The young person had to give the bikes and scooters a little bit of TLC by oiling the chain wheels, cables and pumping up/repairing punctures followed by a good clean.

These bike and scooters were then given to Children's Social Services to give out to those in need.

Carpentry

The wood for the planters were cut by staff in our small workshop then assembled by the young people at home.

Graffiti - Whitleigh

Our young people are still fulfilling their orders in these difficult times by meeting youth offending team workers in the area they live and carrying out tasks with social distancing measure in place.

This job was in Whitleigh, and we were tasked with covering up some graffiti. Rather than painting over it which would provide a blank canvas for the next graffiti we designed art inspired by Dazzle camouflage used on naval ships during the first world war.

Key workers

These have gone to a care home in Stoke.

Local surgery in Cattedown

A young person decorated the pot and wrote a card and then personally delivered these to their local surgery.

Pots and Cards for Key Workers

Pots and cards were given to some of the local paramedics as the young person has had dealings with them in past and also one of their old teaching assistants is now a qualified paramedic so they got a pot and a personal card.

Two nurses working in the community were given a pot each after the worker who had just collected some pots from a young person saw them in between jobs. Both were very surprised to be given these but were very grateful and pleased.

Sow and grow

To keep our allotment going the young people were given the task to grow and look after some plants at home until we are able to work with them at our allotment. Each young person was dropped off a sow and grow pack with instructions.

The main aim of this task is grow and care for a selection of plants at home over the next few weeks so they can be planted at the Youth Offending team allotment plot where they will be grown into larger plants. The vegetables grown will donated to people in need within the city later in the year.

Woodfield Primary school - Whitleigh

One of our young people was tasked with painting some pebbles to look like Ladybugs and Bumble bees to make a game of three in a row for a local Pre school.

The staff were really pleased with this and informed the Youth Offending team that it had come in really handy as the children are allowed to play with Pebbles and wood at this time.
