Chelson Meadow recycling centre will be accepting most types of waste again from Monday 22 June.
The only exceptions will be:
- soil, rubble, tiles and ceramics
- cardboard (please break this down and place it in your green bin or bag)
- bring-bank (recycling bank) materials
Government advice is still that you should only travel to recycling centres if you cannot store your waste without it risking injury or harm to health – so people should only visit if they really need to.
Since the site re-opened last month we have been reintroducing services in phases, to help manage demand and minimise traffic on the surrounding roads, as well as ensure the safety of customers and staff.
Councillor Sue Dann, Cabinet Member for Street Scene and Environment, said: “We’d like to thank everyone for bearing with us while we work to get everything up and running again.
“With strict safety measures in place and fewer staff we’ve had to do this gradually, to help manage demand on the site, keep traffic flowing and – most importantly – make sure our customers and staff are safe.
“As soon as we are able to accept the final few waste streams and start allowing vans and trailers to use the site we’ll let everyone know.”
Traffic restrictions have now been lifted but marshals are continuing to use the ‘stacking’ system outside the site to control queues when they build up.
There is still a limit of two adults per car but children are now allowed (although they must stay inside the car at all times, as was the case previously).
All other restrictions still apply. Please check all the information before setting out and be prepared for long waiting times.
The centre is open seven days a week, from 8am to 6pm.
