Join the Great British Spring Clean

GB Spring Clean

We’re backing the annual Great British Spring Clean and encouraging residents to get involved in keeping their neighbourhoods tidy.

This year the national Keep Britain Tidy led campaign, which runs from 28 May to 13 June, is encouraging people to get involved in their #MillionMileMission to clear litter from our streets, parks and beaches.

The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, schools, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.  Over the past two years in Plymouth, 576 people took part in either a litter pick or a beach clean and collected 1,056 bags of litter.

You can either get involved as an individual or if you’d rather, join a group litter pick. Local groups Clean Our Patch (https://www.facebook.com/CleanOurPatch/events) and Plymouth Beach Clean Volunteers are both hosting a series of session across the city.

To help support the titanic effort of residents, we’ll be assigning staff to help with the removal of rubbish and be providing our purple community litter picking bags to whoever would like them.

Just let us know in advance about your pick and we’ll agree a collection location with you and a collection day for as soon as we can after.

Councillor Maddi Bridgeman, Cabinet member for Environment and Street Scene, said: "It’s great that we as a Council are backing the fantastic Great British Spring Clean campaign.

“I am a frequent litter picker and have been ever since I first became a Councillor but it still makes me proud that so many residents turn out to get involved in events like this and for me is further testament to the wonderful, can-do minded communities that we have here in Plymouth.”
