Snow warning

Date
Snow flakes

There’s a chance the current cold snap may bring snow and sleet showers to the South West tomorrow Wednesday (8 January).

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning from 9am to midnight but says that any snow is more likely to accumulate on higher ground and that nearer the coast rain or sleet are more likely.

It says there is a small chance of delays on roads and that rail and air travel may be disrupted. There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off, as well as a small risk of power cuts and disruption to other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

As skies clear during tomorrow night, ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces and people are advised to take care on the roads. As usual, we are monitoring temperatures and our winter maintenance crews are on standby to grit primary and secondary routes and respond to any issues where needed.

An amber cold-health alert is in place for the region and has been extended through until midday on Sunday (12 January). See the GOV.UK website for tips on staying warm and well this winter.
