Petrol allowance from September 2021 onwards

One of the ways in which we can support you with getting your child to and from school/college is a petrol allowance which will enable you to take your child to/from school/college yourself.

Benefits

You can take your own child to school, at your convenience. This may fit better for your personal and work commitments, for instance if you have other children to get to school because these factors cannot be taken into consideration with other forms of school transport.

The journey time to school can be significantly shorter than being on shared school transport.

If your child attends after school clubs, this will give you flexibility as school transport is only provided at the start and end of the standard school day.

You will be able to liaise with School staff face to face when dropping your child at school.

You would be given the allowance per mile, to and from the school for both journeys in a school day. So you will receive money for the return journey back home not just taking your child to school.

To be considered for this allowance, you must meet the statutory criteria required for school transport. Please complete the relevant section of the application form if you would like to be considered.

How the allowance is claimed

You will complete a monthly return, the school will need to sign the form to confirm your child’s attendance at school for that month and return this form to the School Transport Team

How much allowance you get

We pay 45p per mile from September 2021

How we measure the journey for the mileage allowance

The mileage will be calculated using Microsoft auto-route for the round trip eg leaving your home address to take your child to school and for you to return to your home address in the morning and the same journey again in the afternoon to collect your child from school.

How you will receive payment

Payment will be made into your bank account, usually within 2 weeks of receipt of the completed claim form
