Project Gigabit - Devon and Somerset Public Review

25 October 2022

In 2019 Plymouth City Council received a £2.23 million grant from the Department of Culture Media and Sport’s Local Fast Fibre Network Scheme.

This allowed the Council to supply a new ultrafast gigabit connection to public sector buildings in the city including Council Offices, GP surgeries, and local hospitals and health centres with a view to stimulating the commercial telecoms providers to invest in new infrastructure in the area.

The Government has now launched a new grant scheme called Project Gigabit.  This will tackle all those areas in the UK that are difficult to reach or would otherwise be commercially unviable for Telecoms companies to provide fibre to.

The Government and DCMS are seeking public feedback on the scheme. You can have your say about Project Gigabit on the GOV.UK website.

The consultation closes at 5pm on 4 November 2022.
