1. Hackney Carriage external licence plate
Location: Must be fitted externally on the rear of the vehicle boot or bumper area in approved plate holder.
2. Hackney Carriage Driver and Front Passenger Door
Location: Must be displayed centrally on the front driver and passenger door in accordance with the design approved and supplied by the Council (shown below). The sign should be A4 in size and constructed of vinyl, directly to the door.
3. Hackney Carriage internal ID
Location: Must be fitted to the lower centre section of the internal glazed bulkhead in the approved holder.
4. Hackney Carriage tariff sheet
Location: Must be fitted to the lower nearside section of the internal glazed bulkhead partition approved holder.
Minimum size: 210 x 150mm or 205 x 230.
5. Hackney Carriage passenger information sign
Location: Sticker to be placed in lower portion of rear passenger compartment quarter light window to both sides of the vehicle.
6. Hackney Carriage wheelchair information sign
Location: Must be fitted to the lower nearside section of the internal glazed bulkhead partition adjacent to the tariff sheet.
7. Private Hire external licence plate
Location: Must be fitted externally on the rear of the vehicle boot or bumper area in approved plate holder.
8. Private Hire external door sticker - ID
Location: Must be fitted centrally to the nearside and offside front doors of the vehicle.
9. Private Hire internal vehicle - ID
Location: Must be fitted to the nearside of the vehicle dashboard, or in an approved holder above the vehicle tax disc on the nearside of the windscreen.
10. Special Event Vehicle internal vehicle - ID
Location: Must be fitted in an approved holder above the vehicle tax disc on the nearside or offside of the windscreen.
11. Mandatory No-Smoking sign
Location: Must be fitted in each vehicle compartment so as to be clearly visible. Sign may be incorporated in a taxi disc holder for display in the front compartment, or within the hackney carriage information notice display in the rear of a hackney carriage.
Dimensions: There is no minimum dimension for the sign. However, it must be easily seen by passengers in the vehicle.
12. CCTV advisory notice
This notice is only required to be displayed when a CCTV is fitted to the vehicle. May be green or blue in colour.

The below positions are advisory; however, it is important that all are displayed and can be seen easily by the passenger. They must not be obscured and no other notice is permitted to be displayed unless express written permission has been obtained from the Licensing Section.

16. Private Hire roof sign specifications
The following are the specifications for Private Hire Vehicle roof signs.
Sign Dimensions
The length of the sign shall be – 36” (902mm)
The Height of the sign shall be – 6” (152mm)
The width across the base of the sign shall be 6” (152mm) tapering into 2” (51mm) at its top.
Sign Colour
That facing the front of the vehicle shall be – Yellow or White
That facing the rear of the vehicle shall be – Red
Legends upon Front and Rear of Signs
Identical words shall appear on both forward and rearward facings of the sign, in the following manner.
“ADVANCE BOOKINGS ONLY” – Letters measuring 1 ½ “(38mm) in height and 19” (483 mm) in width.
Company telephone number 000000 measuring 2” (51mm) in height and 17 ½” (445mm) in width.
At the extremities of each face of the sign shall be a Black circle measuring 5 ½” (134mm) in diameter within which the words “Licensed to carry 4 persons”. The number of persons to be carried is to be determined by the permitted number of persons carried according to the vehicle licence.
17. Additional Information
Any roof sign not conforming to the above specifications will be required to be removed. Advice should be sought from the Licensing Section if you are in any doubt as to the suitability of the sign.
