The Plymouth Youth Justice service was formed in 2000, in line with the Crime and Disorder Act. We provide a multi-agency approach to prevent children aged 10 to 17 from offending or reoffending
We aim to develop a youth justice system in Plymouth that:
- sees children as children
- treats children fairly
- helps children to build on their strengths
- helps children make a constructive contribution to society
Diverting children early will prevent offending and create safer communities and fewer victims in the city.
We work with children:
- who encounter the Police at the point of arrest, or
- those whose behaviour is causing the Police concern
helping them to move away from anti-social behaviour and/or criminal activity.
We only take referral from the Police or directly from Court.
We help:
- to support children and their families at court, read about youth court on GOV.UK
- to supervise children who arebailed by the courts, during sentence and on release, read about bail on GOV.UK
- children serving a community sentence, read about community sentences on GOV.UK
- children sentenced to custody, read about custody on GOV.UK
- children understand the effects of their crime
- parents or carers to understand their responsibilities
Our team is made up of:
- Social Workers
- Youth Justice Workers
- Police Officers
- Probation Officers
- Substance Misuse Workers
- Mental Health Nurses
- Access and Attendance Officer
- Victim Worker
- Speech and Language Therapist
