An effective equal opportunities policy must include that the setting adhere to the Equalities Act 2010.

An effective equal opportunities policy is one which is regularly reviewed, written and updated in line with local and national guidance.

An effective equal opportunities policy includes:

  • information about how all children will be included, valued and supported, and how reasonable adjustments will be made for them;
  • information about how the setting will promote and value diversity and differences;
  • information about how inappropriate attitudes and practices will be challenged;
  • information about how the setting will encourage children to value and respect others;
  • how British Values will be taught and promoted in the setting;
  • a commitment to working with parents and other agencies.
