An effective outings policy is one which is regularly reviewed, written and updated in line with local and national guidance.
An effective outings policy includes:
- procedures to follow to plan an outing;
- procedures for practitioners to follow during an outing;
- checks to be undertaken before an outing, including risk assessments;
- adult to child ratios;
- equipment to be taken on the outing.
On all outings practitioners must take, as a minimum:
- register of children on the outing;
- contact telephone numbers for the parents of children;
- a first aid kit;
- mobile phone;
- children’s emergency medication (where applicable).
