Count Assistants are responsible for accurately sorting and counting ballot papers. Please note staff will need to be in attendance at the Life Centre by 8:45pm.
There is a planned count that will commence from 10pm and continue overnight, for Local Elections. There is also an additional count on Friday 3 May 2024 for the Devon & Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner Election.

Objectives
- Maintain a professional and industrious approach to the count proceedings at all times
- Working as a team, complete the count process for the designated voting area
- Assist other count teams as required and instructed by Supervisor
- Identify doubtful papers and put to one side for the Supervisor to address
Key tasks
- Follow the instructions given by the Supervisor, including to re-count as required.
- Verify postal ballot papers for ward collating the ballot papers as instructed
- Verify ballot boxes from polling stations
- Complete the Separation of votes for candidates collating the ballot papers as instructed
- Complete the counting of votes for candidates collating the ballot papers as instructed
- Bag up candidates votes according to instructions
- Clearing of admin supplies from count tables
- Maintain polite distance from candidates/agents/observers and do not engage in any conversation about the ballot
