Three towns amalgamation centenary stone

A unique granite monument was unveiled in Victoria Park on 1 November 2014. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the formal amalgamation of the historic three towns of Plymouth, Devonport and East Stonehouse. Until 1914, each town was separate. The centenary stone is located in the only position where the historic boundaries of the three towns met.

To explain more about the design of the centenary stone and the background to the amalgamation, an interpretation board has been erected nearby - both located at the Millbridge end of the Park. You can also read it below:

The idea of a centenary stone was born out of the Plotting Plymouth's Past project by Old Plymouth Society (OPS) and supported by Heritage Lottery Fund. The centenary stone was commissioned by the OPS on behalf of us. However, the monument was made possible through the goodwill and support of many others, including Peter Hooper (stone mason), CF Piper & Son (the granite) and Ryearch Ltd (the pathway).
