Applying for a Key Stage 4 school place to start in September 2019

If you live in Plymouth, you can apply online for a key stage 4 (years 9 or 10) school place for your child. You need to read the individual school's admission arrangements to see what year they accept children from.

Once you've created an account through the Citizen Portal, you can apply for up to three schools (your first, second and third preferences).

Plymouth has two key stage 4 schools

  • Scott Medical and Healthcare College which takes students from Year 9 and
  • UTC Plymouth which also takes students from Year 9. UTC Plymouth previously took students at Year 10 only so for the 2019 entry year, students applying for either Year 9 or Year 10 entry will be treated as new intake years and will follow the application process outlined on this page.

Step 1

Find the three schools you're interested in. Our find a school section shows details of the schools in Plymouth and gives links to their websites. If you are interested in schools outside of Plymouth, you will need to look at their individual websites.

Read the relevant admission criteria for each school. All of the information you need including the timetable for application, school open event dates, school admission criteria and school contact details (for Plymouth schools) are in booklet below:

Amendment to Another Step booklet: UTC Plymouth has received confirmation that it's entry year will be Year 9.

Step 2

You can register online and apply for a school place through the Citizen Portal. Please remember the password that you create as you will need this every time that you log into the portal. Once you have registered, you will receive an email confirmation of registration. You can apply online between Tuesday 4 September 2018 and Wednesday 31 October 2018. When you apply for a school place, you will receive a confirmation email. Please keep this email.

Step 3

You can go back into your account any time up until the close date to amend your application. If you do this, please remember to re-submit your application and to make sure that you keep the confirmation email.

We will post a letter to you on Friday 1 March 2019 to tell you which school your child has been allocated. This means that you won't receive the letter until after 1 March 2019. If you applied online you'll receive an email on 1 March 2019 to tell you the allocation. You can also sign back into your online account on that date to view the allocation.

Once you receive the allocation, you need to tell us whether or not you wish to accept the place.
