What was active neighbourhoods?
Active Neighbouhoods was a three-year project, running from 2016 - 2019, with funding awarded from the Big Lottery Fund. The project aimed to develop a programme of health and community related activities in and around woods and green spaces across the city.
It was led by the Council, and delivered in partnership with Devon Wildlife Trust to work intensively with residents in Stonehouse, Ernesettle, West Park and Honicknowle, St Budeaux, Kings Tamerton, and Efford. The team worked closely with partners and the community to put on lots of exciting events and activities to encourage residents to get to know these spaces better, to use them more often, get more involved in their community and try out different things.
Active neighbourhoods built on the success of the Stepping Stones to Nature (SS2N) project, which ran for four years in Plymouth until 2013. The SS2N partnership, aimed to make it easier for people to enjoy the city's fantastic green spaces. It involved residents, community organisations, schools, children's and youth centres in and around Plymouth and encouraged people who do not normally think of the parks and nature reserves on their doorsteps when it comes to enjoyment, entertainment and health.
