We are encouraging people to think about how they access the city centre when work begins on Charles Cross in February.
If we can all work together to ensure that less cars are on the road during this time, then we hope to reduce any delays caused by the works on the roundabout.
We’re realistic. We know that some of these options won’t be available or suitable for everyone. But if you can leave your car at home just one day a week then it will make a difference.
Our Plymotion team are dedicated to helping people move around Plymouth using sustainable travel. You can find out more about them by visiting their Welcome to Plymotion page and read some of the different travel options below.
Walking and Cycling
Regular exercise not only keeps you fit, but also increases flexibility, boosts your mood and safeguards your health.
We’re lucky to have a vast network of route for both pedestrians and cyclists, reaching out from the city centre to many different residential areas.
They say that you never forget how to ride a bike but we know that’s not always true. That’s why we have a range of training options for people looking to get back in the saddle. Find out more by visiting our cycling page
Buses
Plymouth is very well serviced by bus routes.
You can find details and plan your bus journey by visiting our Plan your bus journey page.
Car Share
Car sharing is when two or more people share a car journey and travel together. It can save you money and helps to cut down on traffic and pollution.
Carsharedevon.com is a free service for Devon residents that links drivers and passengers. You can add your journey as seeking a lift or offering a lift.
You can share a car for any journey - getting to work, doing the weekly shop, taking the children to school, going to the match at the weekend, travelling to a festival, event or show, getting to or from university, visiting friends or getting to the airport.
Find a car share by visiting the liftshare website.
Park and Ride
If you live a long way from the city centre, then we know that walking or taking the bus all the way isn’t always convenient. That’s why our three Park and Ride car parks are perfect and allow you to leave your car and catch a bus the rest of the way, missing the worse of the traffic.
Find out more about our Park and Ride sites by visiting our Plan your bus journey page.
Ferries
If you commute to the city centre from Plymstock or Hooe, have you ever thought about using the Mount Batten Ferry?
The ferry service between the Barbican and Mount Batten all year round, operating every 30 minutes. It departs from the Barbican quarter past and quarter to the hour and from Mount Batten on the hour and half hour.
Further information can be found by visiting the Mount Batten ferry website.
