International Transgender Day of Visibility

International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event on 31 March which celebrates the transgender community. It is also a time to recognize the continued barriers that the transgender community face globally.

Transgender is an umbrella term widely used to describe people whose gender is not the same as, or does not sit comfortably with, the sex they were assigned with at birth. Transgender people may describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms and which cover both gender identity and expression. Some Trans people may change their gender expression or undergo gender affirming treatment such as hormone replacement therapy or surgery. It is also recognised that there are other identities, for example; non-binary, gender-fluid, asexual, bi-gendered, gender-queer amongst others.

Recognising that Transgender individuals and communities still face barriers and challenges, within Plymouth there are several support organisations in the city which include:

Not Alone
