The Council has developed a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy which all staff and elected members are expected to comply with. The Council has a legal duty to assess the risks to health and safety of all its employees and non-employees who may be affected by our work activities.

The policy sets out the Councils responsibility for health and safety across the organisation with details of the roles and responsibilities for different members of staff. There is also clearer information on health and safety responsibilities associated with schools, facilities management and service areas.

Head Teachers are ultimately responsible for health and safety matters with in their school, and for ensuring that risk assessments are carried out, recorded and implemented.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for the day-to-day health and safety of their staff, pupils and visitors/contractors.

Chief Executive Tracey Lee said: “Having Health, Safety and Wellbeing fully embedded in everything we do is key part of our people strategy. We are absolutely committed to ensuring we have a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture where people feel valued and cared for.”

An updated HSW Policy for 2020 further clarifies the role of the Corporate Facilities Management Teams (Hard and Soft), Persons in Control (PiC) responsibilities and the role of the Corporate Contracts Management Team.
