Anti-football Hooliganism poster

Anti football Hooliganism poster

After committing a crime involving football violence. A young person was tasked to design an Anti-football Hooliganism poster.

The aim of this was to learn about the impact this crime has on the community and football fans.

The young person completed the poster over a number of sessions after they finished school in one of our youth centres. By doing this the young person learned a range of new skills:- use of PowerPoint, design skills, story board and presentation skills with them presenting the final power point to a selection of interested parties.

Estover Youth Centre

We were contacted by Estover to see if we could give the TV games room a makeover as it had some damage and was looking a bit tatty and dated.

The young person and worker had to repair some holes in the wall and give the walls a number of coats of paint to cover up the old graffiti.

As you can see from the before and after pictures the room has been transformed and looks more like someone’s living room rather than a tatty old TV games room.

The young person gained some valuable skills when it comes to DIY which hopefully they will remember and use when they get a place of their own.

Forgotten Garden

This task was given to us by a housing association as the person had not maintained their garden for a number of years due to health issues and if they did not put it right the housing association was going to hire a private company to do it for them and then charge them for it and as you will see it would have cost a lot of money that they could ill afford to pay.

Our Plan was to get it to a point where they could maintain it themselves. The young person and worker did this on a weekly basis over a period of weeks as we could only use hand tools.

The first session was chopping back the bushes and brambles to be able to get  to the gate to even see the garden.

Graffiti

This area is just outside the train station and did not give a very nice welcome to the city. The young person spent one afternoon after school cutting back the overhanging tree, weeding the steps and gave the area a good litter pick. They then spent one morning during the half term holiday with Plymouth City Council's Graffiti team powerwashing all the Graffiti off the walls.

This area was on a main road and would have been seen by many people. We contacted the Landlord/owner of the wall who provided the paint and this was done by one of our young people on a Saturday Morning.

This graffiti was in a Community church in the city centre. The young person power washed the whole area and then painted over the graffiti over a number of three hour sessions.

This job was for a member of the public whose back gate was heavily covered in graffiti. Rather than leave a blank canvass for more graffiti to be added we included some flowers which the owner agrees looks really good.

The old two trees pub Union street.

The YOT painted some flowers over some scruffy graffiti tags on the boards and the feedback we received from passing members of the public was very complimentary.

This was a horrible piece of Graffiti in St Budeaux that we painted over and added flowers to so it would not be a blank canvas for more graffiti.

Whilst there we had a lot of positive comments with one parent taking the time to thank the YP personally  as every time he had to walk past it his young children would ask "what does it say daddy".

Hamoaze house

Hamoaze House is a day support service offering bespoke packages of support to adults, families and young people whose lives are affected by multiple vulnerabilities and complex needs.

This young person cleared the entire area of brambles and with support from YOT staff they made the benches and built the fire area as well as laying a weed proof membrane and then covered this with wood chippings.

All the materials were scrap and kindly donated by local buildings sites as well as the wood chippings that were given by the councils parks department.

Shute Quay Plymstock

Shute Quay was a source of water and a delivery system to the plymstock area centuries ago. Some time ago It was turned into a small garden and sitting area but had been neglected for a number of years.

The YOT was informed of this and has been maintaining this site for the last 5 years or so on a monthly basis. We keep the bushes and brambles down as well as clearing out the pond and sitting area of litter.

Whilst working there we have a seen a number of different species of wild life using the pond area. We also see the local children on their way back from school peering into the pond hoping to see the frogs.
