Carpentry - Young Person's feedback

“When I first started reparation I hated it and would argue with the worker about putting on safety boots but over time I started to enjoy the work and made a fire pit area for Hamaoze house.

I made some benches out of wood and made a fire place out of bricks and invited my mum brother and sister to see it when it was finished and then I cooked them some burgers on it.

I was also on a long order at this time and my YOT worker would use carpentry once a week as a break from me having to visit the office every day. During these session I was allowed to make stuff for my Mum.

The worker would always take pictures of my work and I always wondered why but it all made sense when they helped me to make a CV at the end of my order using these pictures to describe how I enjoyed carpentry.

This was given to a fencing contractor who was looking for a worker and I have been working with him every day since the start of January 2019”

Email from member of the public

Hello

I wanted to send an email to say thank you to the talented person who made the beautiful bunting.

My Aunt died in the early hours of Friday morning. We hadn’t known how poorly she was and live 5 hours away. We got to Plymouth at 9.30pm Thursday evening and went straight to Derriford Hospital to see her. At 2.30am Friday morning I got a call to tell me she had died.

Later on Friday morning we headed to the Harbour for fresh air and distraction and wandered into the Boston Tea Party. Whilst sat there I noticed a sign about St Luke’s and remembered seeing a leaflet next to my Aunts hospital bed and my cousin saying how they’d been supporting her. It felt serendipitous. I decided to buy this bunting, as a thank you for the support St Luke’s had provided. And so that I could use it at birthday parties and celebrations so my Aunt will be there with us.

So thank you to the artist for making me feel less helpless at such a very sad time. And know that every time I get the bunting out it will bring a smile to my face. Your work is powerful.

Kind regards

This email was passed on to the Young person who made the bunting and they could not believe that their work could mean so much to someone in their time of grief.
