Taxi drivers need an enhanced DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) every 6 months, unless you have signed up to the DBS Update Service. After you receive your DBS certificate, you should subscribe to the DBS update service within 30 days.
If convictions are disclosed, you may be referred to the Taxi Licensing Committee.
Apply for an enhanced DBS check
You will need:
- Organisation Code - ORG-KZBKP8YY
- Access Code - Mayflower
- Your email address
Complete the application online with all your details.
Select the relevant identification documents (ID) you wish to use. You will need:
- your Passport or Driving Licence
- 2 forms of proof of address
Proof of address can be from a utility bill, bank statement or credit card statement. The documents need to be in your name and your current address.
Verifying your identity
Once you have submitted your application, print it off and take the form and documents to a post office to verify your identity:
- New George Street post office
- Mutley Plain
The Post office will verify your identity. There is a cost to have your documents and identity verified. Once your identity is verified, your application is sent to the Disclosure and Barring Service. Your enhanced disclosure will be sent to your current address.
After you receive your certificate
After you have received your Enhanced DBS certificate you should sign up to the DBS update service within 30 days.
You must retain your DBS Certificate once it has been issued. You will be required to give consent for the Taxi Licensing Department to be nominated as an authority to view your DBS certificate status for your licence.
If your DBS certificate status changes, a new enhanced DBS certificate must be provided within one month.
