Taxi change of circumstances or report a vehicle accident

Accidents or damage to taxis

If there has been an accident or damage to a taxi, the vehicle proprietor must report this to us within 72 hours.

Change of address

You will need your driver’s badge number. If you are the proprietor of any licensed vehicles, you will need the vehicle details and plate numbers.

Convictions, cautions points or other penalties

You must tell us within 7 days of receiving any penalty points (endorsements) or cautions.

Change of private hire operator

You need to tell us if you change  who your operator is.

Before leaving your current operator, you must obtain the copy of your licence held by them and supply this to your new operator.

ID cards

If you have lost or damaged your ID card you can order a replacement.

There is a fee for ordering replacement equipment.

You need your badge number to order a replacement ID card.

Vehicle Licence transfers

To transfer a vehicle transfer you will need:

  • the bill of sale
  • insurance certificate
  • proof of liability insurance
  • previous owner details

Change of vehicle registration

Tell about a change the registration number of your hackney carriage or private hire vehicle. Your records will be updated and a new licence and plate will be sent to you within 10 working days.

You will need to provide the following:

  • The licence fee
  • Log book (V5C) or DVLA V778 retention document if the V5 has not yet been returned.  This must be in your name and current address.
  • The new insurance certificate displaying new registration.

Medical changes and exemptions

If a medical condition prevents a driver from loading or securing wheelchairs you can apply for exemption. Read the Wheelchair and Assistance Dogs Exemption Guidelines
