Safeguarding course
New drivers must complete the safeguarding course before being issued with their first licence. You must take a refresher course every 5 years.
This training will be by virtual Zoom meeting
Course aims
- Understanding what Safeguarding means
- Be able to recognise types of abuse and neglect, associated signs and indicators
- Awareness of what human trafficking is
- Awareness of what child exploitation is
- Responsibilities and the laws that relate to and the taxi trade
- Know, how and whom, you can report your concerns
We will email drivers to remind them that their 5 year refresher training is due. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that they complete the training. We will not renew a driver's license if they are due to complete their refresher training.
We recommend that you complete the refresher training at least 3 months before your license is due for renewal.
You will need a good WiFi connection for the duration of the course. We recommend using a laptop or tablet.
The course will last approximately 2 hours.

Plymouth Ambassador Course
All new drivers are required to complete this training before we will issue their licence.
This course will take place at Prince Rock Depot, Macadam Road, Plymouth, PL4 0RZ
The course will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm
The date of the course will be provided on the Welcome letter at the initial appointment

Transporting Passengers by Taxi and Private Hire Qualification
Within 12 months of receiving their first licence, all drivers must complete the VRQ or equal qualification in ‘Transporting Passengers by Taxi and Private Hire’. We will only accept qualifications issued by a reputable training provider who can show full compliance with national training standards, specifications and quality assurance framework.
We do not provide VRQ training, you need to source your own training within the timescale set. Local course providers are:
