Plymouth Station forecourt interchange

This scheme forms part of a programme of investment through the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF), that collectively, helps reduce congestion, improve air quality and help the city prosper by investing in infrastructure to improve public and sustainable transport connectivity on key commuter routes across the city.

Scheme summary

We've been working with Network Rail (NR), Great Western Railway (GWR) and the University of Plymouth (UoP) to prepare and agree a masterplan for the redevelopment of Plymouth Station.

To remove vehicle movements through the station forecourt, the current one-way access into the station will be upgraded to two-way access to the new multi-storey car park. Short stay pickup and drop off facilities are being integrated into the ground floor of a new multi-storey car park. This car park is the subject of a separate scheme pro-forma and was currently located to the west of the station.

The public realm works will integrate with all existing footpaths and primary cycle routes located in this area. The station forecourt will become a pedestrian priority area and linking to phase one of the concourse improvements (Transforming Cities Fund T1). A new access will be provided to the station entrance, linking the city centre improvements to the station.
